    Description

Exceedingly rare and original is our 1896 Sousa's Concert Band window card measuring approx 11x14" from a Saturday evening concert on May 2nd, 1896 at historic Mechanics Hall, Worcester, MA.  It is presented in a modest frame/glare glass (sorry for some reflections) measuring 15.5 x 18" with a matte opening of 10.5 x 12.5"  The engraving of John Philip Sousa measures approx 8 x 8" For the sake of preservation, I have not taken the frame apart so I do not know the condition of the field/border hidden behind the matte.  I know for a fact there were 250 of these window cards printed for this single performance based on the original contract for this performance - the contract
    is not
included in this sale.  1896 was an important year for "The March King" as his operetta "El Capitan" premiered only three weeks prior to this concert as well as the creation of his magnum opus, "The Stars & Stripes Forever" in Nov/Dec.  Another important event this year was the sudden death of his manager and benefactor, David Blakely, owner of the Chicago Tribune and one of the largest publishing companies in America - please note the window card was printed by his company!  Based on the recent sale price of an original 1902 Sousa poster, I hope this rarity finds the right home at our buy-it-now price.  Winner pays priority mail shipping.  PayPal payment appreciated within two days of purchase - thank you!  All sales final and please view our other offerings.  Thank you for the privilege of your time.
