HISTORY
Acting upon a customer request in 2017, I decided to design the Model 21 replacement gear which took the same design cues from my Model 17, 18 and 19 replacement gear.  This gear is reverse engineered from the original to have the same gear specification.  Knowing that the reason for the gear breaking over time is its close proximity to the drive motor and its exposure to constant heat, I decided to improve upon the original gear design.  A recent customer took a chance and ordered to see if this gear works on a Model 22 and it turns out that it does.
IMPROVED DESIGN & MATERIAL
The following improvements are incorporated to the
design
of the
new gear:
-Spokes that double as Fan blades to blow some air on the motor and cool the chamber.
-Lighter yet sturdy gear with the spoke design compared to the original.  This lessens the load on the aging motor in spinning the gear, increasing its life.
-Symmetrical Gear that produces very little vibration as the inertia of the gear is distributed evenly.  Compared to similar gears in the market, the fan blades are spread out evenly (no heavy side).  Unevenness in a rotating gear will add vibration wherever the heavy part of the gear is at when it?s spinning.
-PETG plastic - same durable plastic used heavily in drink bottles food safe containers.  It’s now readily available and affordable which makes for the price of this gear very competitive.
PROVEN & TESTED
The new and improved gear has been working well on our Model 21 and has sharpened numerous graphite and coloured pencils.  Because this gear is designed to the same specifications as the Model 17, 18 and 19 gears I sell, this gear will perform the same way.  I have a video of this gear in operation; please contact me if you would like to see it.  Each gear is batch tested to fit in our Model 21.
INSTALLATION
The additional images in this listing show the sequential removal/installation of the sharpener gear.  Once the old gear is removed, orient the new gear the same way as the original (round hole first) then simply slide the new gear into the plastic shaft. It should be a sliding snug fit.  The original Model 21 sharpener gears are snug fit and do not require a hairpin clip and this gear is designed to install the same way.
This gear is one of the biggest in the Hunt Boston family of Electric Pencil
Sharpeners
so it will NOT fit in a Model 17, 18 or 19.  I am also selling those gears on another listing.
